The Flood Alert System has been utilized during many small and large storm events. Summaries of selected events are listed here.
- September 12 - 14, 2008
- Between September 12th and 14th of 2008, Hurricane Ike had a profound impact on the Houston area. During total rainfall of around 8 inches in Braes Bayou, FAS2 tracked two distinct flow peaks on the channel.
- October 16, 2006
- Between October 14th and 16th of 2006, a warm front coming in from the Gulf of Mexico produced more than 10 inches of rain in some portions of the greater Houston area.
- November 17, 2003.
- On November 17, 2003, flood and weather experts attending a conference at Rice had the opportunity to experience intense rain first-hand. Here is what FAS2 showed during that event.
- Tropical Storm Allison
- Tropical Storm Allison hit during June of 2001, causing massive flooding across the Houston Area. We have prepared a summary of the event, along with some of the images that the Flood Alert System produced during Allison.
- Tropical Storm Frances
- Tropical Storm Frances hit on September 11, 1998. While TS Frances caused significant street flooding in the Rice/TMC area, and made access to the TMC difficult or impossible for several hours, there was no serious property damage in the Rice/TMC area. Other parts of Houston had as much as 15 inches of rainfall during the peak 8-12 hours of the storm, causing flooding along Buffalo and White Oak bayous.
